OpenCart community is in the middle of excitement since OpenCart 2 released a week ago. Users excited to explore and developers preparing their new extensions. Even thought there is no official documentation yet, it’s not hold them to play with the new toy.
Here, we want to highlight some new key features of OpenCart 2.
New Design, Now Responsive
OpenCart 2 looks more professional and it’s responsive by default; as you can see at image below.
Customer Custom Field
OpenCart 2 come with Custom Field which is useful to add extra input for customer account or address. You can add new field, but not disabled the default field.
Marketing Tracking
This is great feature to help you track how effective specific campaign lead to sales.
Layout & Modules
When we create layout we also decide what module will show at the layout. It’s make positioning module is much easier because we can visualize the result.
Extensions Installer & OcMod
This is the game changer! Both the Installer and OcMod is new features intended to make OpenCart 2 easier for user and developer.
Despite the fact that OpenCart Blog and Newsletter filled with lot of promotion and marketing campaign, it’s not ready for production use. Bugs spotted after the release and the upgrade script is not fully working. Most possibly this is happen due the short time between each beta released and beta to stable release.
Regardless of all the issue, it’s indeed good improvement for OpenCart. What you think?

The design this good, but too many bugs, too many new features.
Explored the new features of opencart 2.0.1 system. Using OCMOD rather than using VqMod is good and the Responsiveness is also amazing….. Started writing extensions for customizing my Opencart 2.0 . Hurray !!!! Feeling Happy
There is still allot of functions you can add to the default opencart but I will wait for 2.1 or even 2.5 before moving over to the new opencart, in fact something I am looking for is a tax inclusive functionality on the default system, you can use an extension but then you have to modify allot of other extensions for compatibility
It looks great but as always with opencart I will leave it several months before I even consider upgrading anything.
It looks great, but due to missing migration options from 1.5x to 2.0 I will not upgrade….
Please add some migration options/possibilities. Then i will migrate asap.
The new interface certainly looks good, but I’m a bit concerned about the lack of upgrade information. I look forward to being able to use this when it is stable but there seems to be a lot of uncertainty and bug reports at the moment.
The speed of the new version is amazing. Actually i switched to opencart 2 just because of that.
I totally agree with you. The speed looks really good.

Fresh install is really good.
However upgrade is yet a concern.
